Maintaining cotton sarees involves proper care during washing, drying, ironing, and storing:
Washing: Hand wash cotton sarees in cold or lukewarm water using a mild detergent. Avoid hot water, as it can cause shrinking and fading. Gently swirl the saree in water and rinse thoroughly to remove soap.
Drying: After washing, gently squeeze out excess water and roll the saree in a clean towel. Do not wring the fabric, as it may distort the shape. Air dry the saree in the shade, away from direct sunlight.
Ironing: Use a medium to low heat setting on your iron. For embellished or embroidered sarees, place a thin cotton cloth over the saree to protect it while ironing. Avoid using too much pressure to prevent fabric damage.
Storing: Fold the saree neatly along the creases and store it in a breathable cotton or muslin bag. Separate dark-colored sarees from lighter ones to prevent color transfer. Avoid using naphthalene balls, as they may cause permanent stains.
